New Member,hello all-looking for a cerbera*HELP*

Hi There,i am looking to buy a cerbera and am after any advice on buying\owning one,i have attended several meetings and spoken to people at length but have never managed to talk to a cerbera owner!.I have set my heart on a 4.2.Any advice would be greatly received.I will also be at the Chatsworth gathering(second time without the car).I have been looking at the orange 4.2 currently up for sale on this site,but am a bit nervous about buying private.I live in Durham.

the red one for sale by "Skyline [someone or other]" looks like a lovely car IMO - If I Were buying, I'd be checking that out out PDQ. I'm very surprised it's still not sold to be honest

The Red one is mine, I'm suprised it still hasn't gone. Tbh I've had a few tyre kickers so awaiting a serious buyer.

I too have had my share of timewasters, mine is the orange one.
Fed up of waiting in for people that never turn up!!

Hi, I just sold my 97 4.2 at the end of the year after 2 years trouble free motoring, apart from the usual electrical gremlims.
Buy on condition, check the chassis CAREFULLY, outriggers are the main spot and the corners behind the front wheels where muck gathers. Check discs as these are very hard to get hold of resulting in "upgrades" ( good few threads about it on here.)
Engine will sound tappety on start up, but will quieten down when warm.
Temperature should be 80C on a run, gauges nearly all seem to read about 10C high.Hoses and clips were all needing replaced when I sold mine. If possible ask to see under the F1 panel, thats the panel between the radiator and engine, it can hide a multitude of sins under there.
Check for lots of bills for previous work as you need to keep on top of them.
Other than that it can still be very much of a lottery, I was lucky with mine, others haven't been, BUT......
I would go for it as when right there is nothing like a cerb, so much so that I am looking for another.( Wife says a 4.5 this time though !)

Hi Andy - I've had my 4.2 for coming up to 4 years. Never looked back .

I will also be at Chatsworth - happy to natter (until Monday ), go for a blast, introduce you to some great Cerbera people - if you get a spare minute .

There will be lots more advice coming along, so I'll stand back now .

I Paul, I'm looking for a cerbera since a long time and I'm a serious potential buyer, why your car is still for sale? only timewasters? have a look on my profile and let me know if you're agree to let your car gone in France in a good home alongside a Wedge and a Reliant. If I cross the channel, it will not to make a burn and say "thanks, bye!"

Hi P666 BHP,not sure if you will get this message,i tried ringing but got no answer,thought i would give this a try.I am going to speak to my other half tonight about the car-the problem is she wants blue,however she did say she wanted a car that "stands out from the crowd"and no point buying dark blue,so with a little convincing-and a little wine-i might get away with it,what colour is the interior? I would like either grey or black.If you get this message please send one back,do not worry i an not a timewaster-been on the receiving end a few times!

Weird, still advertised at lots of places at different prices. I'll have to check the bill to see how much I paid, where they came from.

Andy - Don't place to much importance on the colour of the car, it may influence your choice wrongly. If you were buying a 'normal' car, then you can afford to be choosy as there are plenty around. But there aren't many Cerbs around, and a good one in the 'wrong' colour, is far preferable to a bad one in the 'right' colour.

Exactly what i was told when i bought mine, mechanically it is now almost perfect. I love my colour, i think the cream interior contrasts well with it, gives it a nice airy feel even though the cerb cockpit is small. A couple of the people who have seen the car havent liked the interior colour, and have then gone for cars with a different interior/exterior combination but have been mechanically inferior.
