E36 M3 Cab Stereo upgrade

Alright chaps. I fancy upgrading the stereo in the E36. I don't want a 'rood' system or anything, but the original stuff could be a little better. Especially as it has an AC Schnitzer exhaust to compete with! Its probably in need of a refresh after 12 years of use anyway I guess.
If there was a place in the Berkshire / SW London area anyone can recommend. I don't think I have the factory optional upgraded stuff, odd as its got almost everything else on it like cruise, climate control, heated full leather etc. I was wondering what the costs might be like for various options.
Its got a Sony CD head-unit in it at the moment and I'd really like proper iPod connectivity and the existing door speakers to be upgraded for a bit better bass and clarity. When the hood is down I know that good sound will be difficult, but hood up on the motorway / hard top on I'd like a lot better sound than I am getting!
I tried a search but nothing E36 specific came up.
