I have recently bought some DDI's for my office and have asked my telephone system provider to assigning those to some extensions, they subsequently required me to open some ports and assign an IP address to my telephone system. I managed to do this yesterday but they could not gain access through the ports, no reason why?

To assign these ddi's they have said I now need a Engineer visit and that will be £125 /hr and £75 p/hr after the 1st hour. I am a bit reluctant to pay this as I feel this is more a fault of the system, what would you think?

Did you have remote admin as part of the deal? If not then you can't really complain, the prices certainly are not high IMO. If however you are supposed to have remote "dial in" access to do such things then they need to come out FOC & sort out why it isn't working.

I have suggested an alternative, they remote login to my pc and I connect to the system in the office, hoping that should work ?

Don't see why not, we had an issue like this once & they stuck us on their VPN so we could connect to a PC that was connected to the PBX's USB port!

I also suggested they walk me through it over the phone or is it to complicated for something like that?

Like i said really you need to establish what agreement you have. If you have maintenance then you are trying to help them. However, if it was supply of the system only then you are taking chargeable work away from them! (akin to ringing the local garage & asking how to take something apart & put it back together again!). I've not worked on Mital so can't comment how much work there is but probably very little.

I have a contact who specialises in Mitel, I'm sure he'd take 2 mins to talk you through any issues?

PM me if you dont get it sorted.
