(I have signed up under a different username as i wish to stay anonymous)

I was convicted of a (minor) non-motoring crime back in December 2005 - I was fined by the court.

According to http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/rehabact.htm, my conviction is "spent" after 5 years (I was 18 at the time) and is no longer required to be declared?

So am I right to say that once December 2010 has passed, my conviction is spent? Just wondering in respect to a job application etc.

Many thanks all.

If you didn't get to stay at Her Majesty's pleasure then your conviction will become 'spent' after 5 years. This means that if an employer asks you if you've got a criminal record, you can say ‘no’.

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, some jobs are exempt so don't become 'spent' ever i.e. working with children or vulnerable adults, sme jobs in the financial services industry, some jobs in law enforcement/national security etc

Also, any jobs requiring an enhanced disclosure may throw it up if it's considered relevant to the job.
