I've got about 15000 songs on my computer, nearly all of them are tagged correctly with album artists, artists, album name, year, track number etc. but the folders that they are in are all in a absolute mess. Is there a piece of software which will neatly organise them into folders so that in my music there is a big list of album artists and within the album artists folders, there is a list of albums which are created by each artist? I'm not sure if I explained that very well so if I didn't then I'll try to explain better.

Thanks

If they are all tagged properly, just import them all into iTunes and allow it to organise your music.
You will end up with a list of folders in artist order and then a sub folder under each one for each album.

Some people wont like this but it really is that simple.

iTunes does this, it's one of its most useful features IMO even if you don't use it as a player.

But he has wma... I'm just wondering if it would try to convert, or just spit it out? I've never used wma with iTunes, so can't say.

Ah bugger I missed that bit. I have a Mac and just downloaded a sample WMA file and iTunes won't import it, but of course it may behave differently on Windows.

What does iTunes do with compilations when things are by loads of different artists? I want them sorted by the album title, I don't want an artist with 1 track inside it. This is how Windows Mobile Media Player and the Android media player do it and it's a bit annoying really.

click the songs in the album, right click, and put various artists in the album artist box...
