Afternoon,

I'd like some opinions on point and shoot cameras.

I have a 40d and a smattering of lens which I love, however I need something smaller.

I've always fancied something from the panasonic tz range and notice that there is now a tz8

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Digital-Camera-1...

These seem to pack a lot of features, generally get good reviews etc..

Should I get one or is there a sensible alternative with a similar feature set?

Anyone got strong opinions on the TZ Range?

D

I've had a TZ5 for a year before buying a Canon 450D.
Brilliant little thing, I would definitely recommend it!

The only downside I could think of would be the lack of manual control like in some Ricoh, Canon models etc.

I have sold loads of the tz6 and without tempting fate, havent had one back with any fault (can't say that about any nikon, canon, fuji). And for a compact the pic are brilliant.

My GF bought me a DMC-TZ3; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-TZ3-Digital-...
Had it over a year now and it's been great! No problems what so ever. Great screen, zoom and pictures (IMHO). It's not especially compact but it does allow for some adjust-ability/tweaking wink

TZ7 is a great camera, though not drop proof like other cameras I've had. Love the quality of pics and video it takes. Makes our camcorder obsolete.

I have a Nikon D90 with a few lenses, but for general snaps etc i have been using a TZ5 for around 2 years, the battery lasts for ages, its easy to use and produces good quality images, the wide angle and long zoom is handy too, as is the high quality video footage it captures. The only real downside in my opinion is the lack of viewfinder.

The tz8 is a pretty good little camera, but doesnt have too many improvements over the 7. I would consider the new canon sx210. We have just got that in and it looks pretty good, a big improvement over the 200 imo.

i would say the lens in the TZ7 is superior to the canon

I have a TZ3 as my happy-snappy, it is a wonderful thing that produces cracking pictures.

ETA - the only thing I don't like is the shuttered lens cover seems a bit delicate so I pinched a connector cap from the wiring shop to protect it.

I tend to prefer the panasonics to the canons, in fact i had a tz5. But the new canons lense is just as good as the leica option from panasonic. Both are wide angle, but I think the stabiliser on the 210 is very good, which makes it a little better than the tz7.

Well I went for a TZ7, it arrived this morning, is charged and if I can I'll take it out later and take some test shots with it.

It is a very, very good point and shoot, leave it in full auto thingy and it works very well.
The video is nothing short of stunning (although the sound is a little lacking).

£199, you'd be mad not to..

We were at my brother in laws wedding on saturday and it did really well, however it made me realise how much I really like my 40d and how much better the results are from using a dlsr. I think thats probably as much that I was taking my time rather than pointing and shooting...
