Hello all,

Well not a great start. Just bought an RX8 today (55 plate, 231, 39000 miles, FSH) and on the way home it started spluttering and the CEL started flashing. It then stopped flashing, only to happen again so I pulled over and turned it off. When starting back up it seemed ok. Got it home (by now had owned it for all of 30 minutes).

Just tried it again and now it is even worse. After about 5 minutes it started misfiring again and is now constantly like it at all revs. The flashing CEL is now on permanently.

The previous owner says it has never happened before and we have the mazda extended warranty. Mazda assist are comming out tomorrow but does anyone have any thoughts? (Spark plugs were done in Jan)

What a great first post!!!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

We've got an RX-8 and I'm familiar with the associated problems.

I'd recommend replacing the following;

Coil packs (Try ebay USA)
HT leads (Magnecor's are fine)
Spark plugs (Original spec NGK's are fine)

That way you can be sure all your ignition components are new and working correctly. The coils and leads are known weak points, not likely to last much longer than 30k miles.

The coils really should be a service item IMO. I did a precautionary change on mine, never having had a problem, at about 40k and it made a noticable difference to the performance
