Avast slowdown ?

Has anyone else had problems with avast ? My PC has been running at a snails pace today. Ran malwarebytes scan but all clean. Checked avast, its up and running but not doing any scanning but still seems to be hitting 40% CPU use.

Uninstalled Avast PC's back to normal speed. Ive stuck Microsoft security essentials on instead, so far so good, PC still back up to normal speed.

Full scan shows all clear so wondering if an avast update had come out and had a bug in it.

You didn't mention which version of Avast you are running or your operating system, Ive got Avast on Windows Vista and right after I did a complete recovery of my system around a month ago Avast 4.xxx wouldn't run and made me upgrade to Avast 5.xxx, maybe that is helpful?

Windows XP and Avast 5. I guess its just me then, must be something on my PC that avast is interacting with.

I switched to Avast v5 after AVG started to slow my laptop down. I have no problems with pace of laptop which is running Vista basic
