We currently contract a manufacturer to produce a product for us. This product is made from quite a few parts, some of which we buy and supply to the manufacturer to assemble. There is no alternative to us doing that.
What I would like to do is use Sage to monitor the stock levels of the items we supply to the manufacturer. Ideally I would like to avoid zero value invoices for the parts to the manufacturer, as I don't want to confuse them with unnecessary paperwork.
It appears I can't do a BOM for purchase orders that will take items from our own stock.
The only way I can think of doing it, is to create a customer account in Sage that is effectively us. Whenever I order units of our fully assembled product from the manufacturer, I then do a zero value invoice to this phantom account for the parts we have used, thus removing them from stock and allowing us to use the Sage re-order system effectively.
Is there any accounting blockage to this idea and, can we run a specific ledger code for these transactions?
