Evening all.

I have ripped a blu-ray movie to MKV and want to watch it on a DVD player.

is there a way to get the MKV to DVD?

I could move the PS3 through but that's a pain and will lose surround sound.

Thoughts?

David.

Well, presumably you'll have tyo convert the mkv to something the DVD player will play. Handbrake will convert.

You'll have to check whether any of the software is good, or safe, I don;t know as I tend not to bother with DVD's. You're best googling to find software similar to the ones above.

I found that after a quick google but it says the DVD isn't blank when it is.

I'm converting the MKV now to MP4, just need to figure out how to get that onto a DVD.

Right, i thought by you suggesting that handbrake will convert that you meant it will convert to something i can stick on a DVD.

Handbrake used to convert to .avi, but recently changed. Hence the other links.

www.doom9.org is usually pretty good for this kind of thing.

Not 100% sure how much of the sound is lost, but I have my PS3 connected to my AV reciever via optical and MKV files sound bloody good to me. You need to run something like PS3 media server on a reasonable spec PC though as the PS3 can't play MKV itself and so it'll be decoded on the fly by the PC, which does make fast forward and rewind a little hit an miss on my 3.4Ghz Phenom X4

What was the point of this?

Why would you rip a Blu-Ray, convert to MKV, then convert again to MPEG2 to stick on DVD?

Would it not have been easier to just download the film in a format that was suitable (either Xvid or a DVD img)?
