Deterrent, or Just an Inconvenience?

He gets ordered £366 for this, because he said he was sorry?
Breaking the rear screen of a Pug 307 with your head takes a bit of doing... The chairman of the bench needs a dry slap too:
A VIOLENT vandal has been jailed for three months for spitting blood into the eye of a horrified policewoman after a drug and drink fuelled late night rampage in Weston.
Mark Dowe, aged 21, spat on PC Victoria Leigh after he had been evicted from hospital for abusing staff and patients following a booze and cocaine binge.
Dowe, of Locking Road, had earlier injured himself by smashing a car windscreen outside his girlfriend's house with a head-butt and punching a stained glass window.
In a statement read to North Somerset Courthouse in St Georges on March 25, PC Leigh said: "I was horrified and instantly felt sick as thoughts of infection entered my head.
"I couldn't understand why he did this as I spent such a long time trying to help him and was nothing but nice."
Kevin Blackmore, prosecuting, told the court PC Leigh's colleagues had to restrain Dowe in a police cell following the attack on January 30.
Magistrates heard that in interview the Locking Road resident later admitted to having taken cocaine with a substantial amount of alcohol.
Dowe's violent outbursts had started when he vandalised his girlfriend Charlotte Purdy's house and smashed the rear windscreen of her stepdad's Peugeot 307 with a head-butt.
The court heard that police were called to her Addiscombe Road home at around 4am and took him to Weston General Hospital for treatment, but he was refused it due to his behaviour.
Judith Mills, defending, said: "Mr Dowe has little recollection so I cannot tell you very much about that night.
"He has said that when he has been drinking he becomes a different person - a person that he does not like."
Sentencing, chairman of the bench Nicholas Hooper said: "You did say that you're sorry, but the constable had an experience which nobody should have to put up with."
Dowe was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the officer, £141 for smashing the stained glass window and £25 for a damaged terracotta pot.
