They've lost the plot completely, in fact they haven't just lost the plot they have lost the person who knew where the plot was in the first place.

Really? Was it? Is he sure about that? I don't recall some of the wanton, mindless, yob violence we see today. I don't remember people setting fire to bunnies and dogs, hoodies stabbing inoocent people, etc, etc. Sure, there was hooliganism and a bit of rioting but as a normal person out on the street I didn't feel threatened I was going to get stabbed up for simply looking at someone.

So, David Milliband wants to secure the vote of the under-25s by reminding them of the civil unrest (caused by labour voting unionists) that happened several years before they were born?

The anger I feel when I watch these pathetic creeps on the tv. Their responsible for the debt and yet they go on tv suggesting otherwise, up and down the country people must be having heart attacks.

I'm starting to think the best thing for my health would be to throw my plasma off the roof and film it for youtube. Only problem is I'd probably be banged up for it.

They really are completely and utterly clueless.
Didn't take the opposition to think up an obvious riposte.

Spectacular own goal by Labour - do they really believe life and freedom is so much better now!

"People could be paid a pound an hour and that was thought to be acceptable. People couldn't rely on having modern school buildings."

Whereas nowadays people consider themselves lucky to have a job at all. And plenty of decent, servicable school buildings were knocked down because they were considered "too old" and pupils have had to study in wooden portable classrooms while "modern" monstrosities are built in their place.

Let's also not forget the fact that when Labour came in they scrapped the scheme that allowed intelligent but poor children to attend private school for free, so now they're stuck going to the below-standard comprehensive where their talents and potential are completely wasted. All in the name of progress.

With inflation over the years, would 1980s £1 per hour be equivalent of 2010's £5.50 an hour?

There's an argument that Labours introduction of the minimum wage has actually kept wages down because employers can simply pay the bare minimum and get away with it rather than actually having to compete with rival businesses by offering higher wages.

In 2008, £1.00 from 1980 is worth

£3.21 using the retail price index.
£4.97 using average earnings.

I'd suspect average earnings are a better measure as they include housing, but its pretty damned close. Good call.

Labour - giving you an extra 53 pence since 1980 wink

Meanwhile, in the last 11 years the minimumn wage has gone up by a whopping £2.33 (£3.60 in Apr 1999 to £5.93 in Oct 2010).

Sadly, yes. And for many other things that the money grabbing self serving scum have bought off balance sheet. That is why the country is in ruins now, and will be in ruins for a few years to come.

Quality poster and with Gene Hunt seen as a breath of fresh air by many it's a spectacular own goal by Labia. I felt utterly refreshed after watching him last night.
