I know it's a bit morbid but I'm genuinely interested.

Personally I've never seen a dead person apart from my good mate who's parents decided on an open coffin eek but didn't tell us. Why would they.

Hopefully I never will.

Not sure, I saw three police dragging a man from a truck that was sitting at the front of a queue of traffic at a set of green lights. They were trying to resuscitate him, and then a paramedic/doctor arrived, but I don't know if they managed to bring him round or not - lets hope so.

Yes my Grandad as I was with him when he died frown and an old fella just after he'd been hit by a truck, that was particularly awful, it was probably about 15 years ago and the image is still very clear in my head!

Quite a few for various reasons (it should have rubbed the lotion in) wink

Gives me the heebe jeebies though when a relative dies and people are kissing the 5 day old stiff just before the burial

Yes, I went down to the mortuary once (not by choice mind - and the mortuary assistant really did look like a creepy person too - that sent more chills down my spine than the dead people).

Three I think.

My nephew at the funeral home.

A man killed in a motorbike accident. I was walking by as paramedics were trying resuscitation.

A girl was thrown from a fairground ride a few years back and landed near me.

Several. But all due to natural causes.
  • Paternal grandmother literally minutes after she died
  • Maternal grandmother in hospital morgue's "viewing room" (for want of a better word)
  • Mother-in-law in the Undertaker's
  • My dog, who died looking at me and me at him. Upsetting, but at least we were together to the end.

3 Family members, all thankfully having been 'dressed' for burial. Never quite get over the difference of appearance of a loved one when they are lifeless. They all looked vastly younger having passed on.

Also seen 4 fatal accidents over the years whilst drag racing, 3 at Santa Pod and one at Indy.

Bloody hell, that would make me sick to my stomach.

Back on topic,

I answered yes. I saw my grandad in coffin a year ago. Quite a strange experience as I wasnt upset at the time, more curious by the body that I used to speak to now lying empty of any soul. Weird.

About 8 I think.

All relatives either at the hospital first and then later at the funeral.

I watched my Dad die after the plug was pulled. I'm in no way religious but I believe he'd already left his body at the time. It still haunts me though... not because here was a dead body in front of me, but because the man who I'd known and loved all my life wasn't present in the body in front of me.

I've questioned my lack of faith ever since and truly wish I **had** some, but sadly for me I cannot make myself believe despite living amongst Catholics (my wife and children). It doesn't stop me from trying to talk with Dad when I'm alone in my car, or whenever I get chance to visit his grave.

At least 3

biker buddy Troy Sidwell...

who was on a trip to scotland that i ran annually, I let him lead off in front to the next village because the tenth rider wasn't in sight on a long straight and i was going to go back for a look where he was. Roy crashed 3 bends later, he hit a big rocky patch beside the road and he and the bike hit the back of a holiday bungalow 90 yards down the hill. Myself and his mate coxy tried to revive him while help was being summonsed but there was no response. We were later told he died when his head hit the rocks and that was why there wasn't much blood where he landed.

mum...

Was sat with her when she took her last breath in hospital, the silence was DEAFENING (her heart gave in after years of illness)

dad...

got the phone call from hospital but he was 'gone' by the time we got there (heart gave in after 50 years of lung problems) he was so cold, so soon!!

By far the worst experience was when my mum stopped breathing

Many moons ago I was in the cinema with a friend.

A guy across the aisle was sitting with his head back and his mouth open. After a while, an usherette came and tried to speak to him, then shook him, and went away. Ten minutes later two ambiwlansmen came and carted him off.

In the paper the next day a short article about a man dead in the cinema...

Poor bugger died watching Monty Python's Holy Grail. What a way to go.

Yes and he was saying "Watch the cyclist" "Slow down" "Your going to slow" hehe

I've still got both my parents, but lost my 36yo bro last year, so feel your pain. frown

Maybe this thread should have been "Have you had anyone close to you die" (personally not geographicaly)
