Pretty much as the title says really, as I'm after a MacBook Pro 13" and know there's some site that says wether it's a good time or not to buy one. Googled it, but came up with nowt. Cheers.

never a good time! There is always an addition just around the corner. I bought a unibody macbook aluminium, when they came out, and it wasn't long after they changed it to macbook pro, with the new battery, etc. Doh!

Yeah, tis always a pain buying Apple stuff, but there's a particular site that says how far into each products life cycle you are. Seen in linked from PH a few times.

Overdue an update so hold off if you can. That said, if you have a need for a new computer right now then buy - a new one will be an evolutionary not revolutionary change, and the current one is a well-proven platform.

A plausible theory is that with the iPad launch, Apple don't want any other announcements distracting attention from that - or for potential iPad customers to spend their money on something like a MBP instead. Give it a month or so for the initial iPad hype to die down and they'll probably have a laptop update announcement then.

It's getting pretty frustrating, tbh, and the net is filled with poeple saying the same thing...

I need to upgrade (I'm still on a 2007 macbook) and there's nothing out there. Both the macbook pro and the power mac are well past their regular update point and both ranges are well behind competitors' offerings on the technology front. The only apple product that is moderately current is the i5 / i7 imacs, but I wouldn't touch one of those due to their horrendous build quality issues.

Not true.

The 13" MacBook has been Core 2 Duo based since 2006. Sure its had lots of minor updates along the way, but its still been based on the same fundamental architecture

Any day now we can expect the Intel i3/i5 based MacBooks to land, and this will be the biggest change yet since the latest CPUs are revolutionary and offer a far better performance/ efficiency/ price ratio than anything offered before. Once they are out it will be a good 6-months at the very least before Apple make any minor changes, but the actual CPU architecture will be here to stay for a few years at least.

What? I'm not sure what exactly it was you read from my post, but as an owner of a white 13", then the unibody 13" macbook, they DID change it to the macbook Pro with the new battery? What of that statement is not true? I never said anything about core 2 duo, or fundamental architecture. I simply said that there is always a change around the corner.
