Hi, first time poster of my things in the photography section!
But my friend convinced me to take some photos of his car on Friday, so I thought I would give it a bash!
Shot using a Canon 350D.

And some of my favourite ones. Try to ignore the fact it's a Saxo! Were only 17!

Random car in background ruins this one a bit

As said it was just a quick shoot and I'm very amateur so any hints and tips welcomed!
Also, in another album thehre is pics from an Aberdeen Pistonheads meet from yesterday if anyone is interested

2 and 5 are my favourites - well-composed (the random car isn't that noticeable). 4's quite nice, while I don't think the sloping horizon in 6 works (mainly because it's sea and it's such a stark line).
A couple of pointers:-
- With a bland background like this (lighthouse excepted), try and use a smaller aperture to blur the background.
- Consider backing-off a little more and making the 'offsetting' of the car in the frame more noticeable - not sure if you've tried to use rule-of-thirds or not.
- Clean the sensor! Or at least photoshop the dust-artifacts out...rather distracting.
- The shoot would have more impact in decent sun rather than the overcast conditions you had (and especially early/late in the day when the sun's light is 'warmer', but that's an observation not a criticism, sometimes you work with what you've got.

over cast gives you much greater control over light though and with clouds rther than just stark grey sky you can do a lot more. Strong sunlight kills photos. You also need to consider processing images afer they are taken. By this I do not mean American style b
disation of your shot I am on about adjusting brightness, contrast etc

Not so sure I like the masts sticking out of the top of the car!
didn't notice them until afterwards, rookie mistake
what programs would you recommend for photo editing? Preferably free and easy to use ones.
And for editing things like contrast, how far would I change the contrast (if that makes sense!)

erm you have a canon you have the BEST editing software you ever need as a result = Canon DPP, anything else is just for those that want to edit out mistakes or to compensate for shonky exposure. I am purposefully not mentioning HDR for fear of what that might entail
Hmm, I haven't any canon software installed so will see what's in the camera box! I did think about mentioning HDR but as you said, feart of what may follow!
