Hi Guys,
just an enquiry but has any one changed the standard wedge steering wheel for any thing bigger to help with the effort on a non pas 350i?
Parking at low speeds is a nightmare and I have played about with tyre pressures etc.
I know there was a PAS option but a steering will change might be simpler.
the other option is to get back into the gym!
any advise as usual would be great.

MK1 Mazda MX5 used a Momo wheel that looks very similar to original wedge and is a bit bigger (about 14.5 inches), I picked one up off ebay for about a tenner. Exactly the same fitting so as well so bolts straight on.

I've collected all the parts and hope they all fit.

MK5 Cortina PS rack. Placed a free wanted ad' on said club board. I think I paid a very reasonable £60. Sent it up to Brum (via TVR Barnet) for a rebuild which was not so cheap at I think £175.00 but at least I now have a brand new rack.

Rover SDI PS pump (thanks Reverend, it will be replaced, returned or paid for once my car's all together, your choice)

I believe some cars were fitted with the rack from the SDI but best check with others here.

Check the spined shaft size on the P/S Rack... I think you will find it's a larger diameter than the manual rack but smaller than post other joints. I spent 18 months trying to get hold of the right UJ and ended up having some specially made. I had the whole thing fitted a couple of years ago but had to take it off until I sourced the correct UJ. Some people were closing up a larger joint but it looked a little dangerous to me. Cheers Steve.

If you need the 'other size' UJ drop me a line, there's a slim chance I have one, although the bearings will be shot. However they are relatively easy to have reconditioned, much easier than finding a new one.

Adam,

Can you please have a look for said UJ and I'll gladly exchange a few beer tokens or return it if of no use?

Thanks.

Could you not use a wheel from a bus or a truck, this would help you turn better at low speeds bouncebouncebounce
