Afternoon chaps,

I've just been given a Blackberry Curve 8900 by a friend who has upgraded, the phone was on the Orange network, so I've purchased an Orange pay as you go Simcard for it. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for the instruction books etc..

I'm an absolute beginner with these smart phones & i just cannot seem to work out how to set-up an email account, I've looked on various websites but I'm even more confused now!

Can anyone please spare a few minutes to explain in Layman's terms how to set this up?! I'm getting rather cross with it furious

I would appreciate any help..

Cheers,

Mike smile

It ought to be very simple.

Thats what i thought, setup, email set-up, then it only gives me one option - i want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server, if i click on this it then asks if my Blackberry Enterprise Server administrator has provided an activation password confused

Have you got a Blackberry plan? I think you'll need to enable this with the network in order to get your emails pushed to your handset

Oh weird. You should be able to set up internet email (hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc) in the same way...

If you want to join your device to the work BES server you'll need to get the BES admin to create you an activation code.

Once you've done that it's a very simple task that should take less than 5 minutes

All i really want to do is check my personal emails when I'm out and about. But when i go into email set-up it only gives me the one option, which is the work email account with a BES server... Cheers

Oh sorry misread that.

You'll need the Blackberry bolt on, on your contract.

You should have two option in that set-up screen either work or 'add another'.

Was this device previously a work device and do you know if it was attached to a BES server?

Ah right, I'll need to contact Orange then? I'm guessing you can get a Blackberry bolt on even though I'm on pay as you go?

Yes it was a work device, so i presume it was attached to a BES server..

You can get different pay as you go bolt ons from some of the providers.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but he needs to have access to a BIS server to get the service books and the set-up icon?

Sorry I only work on the corporate side so don't get involved in stuff like this.
