This is what the seller told me:

Hi William,
The car is a genuine Griffith 200 and it left the factory in this state but it was never issued a chassis number by TVR, it left the factory when the company when bust and was given out in lieu of payments and wages etc...
Since then in 1985 the DVLA have issued the car with a chassis number and an age related number plate. I have all this documented by the TVR Club. The Chassis number is SABLVL03935182009 and the Reg number is APA 357A.
Best regards,
Chris.

The car is sold now for 13.701 GBP.........

Did we miss something ?

Pretty sure the new owner will be missing Fia papers.

The usual griffith built after going bust story.

Did we miss something ?

Don't even get me started. The whole Fia scene is farcical. Saddest of all it seems to be all down to money rather than just enjoying old cars racing around circuits.

The sooner all of these dicks who profiteer from selling scrap ps off and find something else to invest in the better in my book for proper enthusiasts who actually do a bit of building and restoring!!

Fully agree with you - I dream of owning an early TVR for the 'right' reasons every day but the prices have become prohibitive.

Presumably, a genuine TVR Griffith 200 loaded with interesting, documented, TVR history ?
I hope you enjoy it!

What are you going to do with the scrap pile after removing the vin tag?

Don't get me wrong. I am happy a car like this will be saved but I question anyones sanity paying 13k for the pleasure. If everyone was like me then classic cars would be much cheaper and more affordable to all.

I would however question the cars originality, especially the date / timeline around it being a genuine griffith and the fact that in the current debacle that is the Fia the car isn't eligible for Papers.

if you are happy with it then I guess thats all that matters.

Age related Vin - no actual Griff came out of the Factory before 65!

Looks like junk to me.

Jellison-
I thought 1964? Wasn't that when the mention in Road and Track was? For that matter, I thought my ex (now your current) was 1963? (Albeit, I think/thought it was a modified line Grantura sent to Griffith.

Hows the project coming?

Hi Bill - according to Mike M's and Joe R's info the prototype was registered in 64 a 200-4-000 and then all the rest were 65 or later.

Coming along nice finally! Took me way to long to start - is being held up a bit by an engine (and some other bits) due in from the us since b4 the New Year!

Drop me a mail on my lgc mail and I'll send you some pic's. Body mostly modded and beefed up, chassis coming along - rear and front hubs / uprights will be bombproof.

It will be one Trick car wink
