Looking for a bit of help with this one, and this seems a good place to ask.

Looks like wifey and I shall be moving abroad within the next four months through my job. Great stuff. However. Her car is going to need sold, and I haven't got a clue where to price it. I've looked on Autotrader and the PH classifieds and prices for good E46 cars seem to be all over the place, and very strong as well it seems. Hers is a 325Ci, and a friend just bought a 318Ci for what I would call silly high money last week there.

Anyways, its an 02 plate 325Ci Sport, with all the m badge stuff from the factory, and a fair few extras, like the Harman Kardonn, sunroof, unmarked leather interior, armrest, CD changer etc..

It's done 80k, with mainly main dealer history, last two services are BMW specialist. All fluids recently done, inspection 1 is getting done this week, years MOT, 6 months tax. It's also, within the last four months, had a full front end respray done in BMW with the two front wings replaced due to the start of bubbling. This alone cost us £1500, but the car looks stunning. Those boys know their trade. Oh, and it's in silver, if that helps.

Any clues as to what I should be looking for from the PH BMW knowledge base? All help and price guides appreciated smile

Thats pricing it well over 3 grand lower than I've seen them sell for...

Also 3 grand lower than the one a mate just bought, and it was within £500 of all others he looked at, so I'm not trusting that guide.

Thanks for posting though smile

As part exchange valuations, the linked guide looks about right - I have a silver 2002 E46 330Ci Sport with black leather, sunroof, electric blind, sat nav, harmon kardon etc - one owner with 54,000 miles, and I am getting bids of £6k to £7k in part exchange. So £5.3k for a 325Ci with 81,000 miles seems about right. Private sale may get £1.5k more, so I guess £7k to £7.5k is possible if you're not in a hurry to sell. This seems consistent with similar mileage cars on autotrader at the moment.

Good luck with the sale.

Thanks Gary. I'm hoping to get 7.5k for it, as its a 2 owner car, same owner last 5 years etc, and really is a peach. It took me a while to find one this spec for the wife.

Not in a hurry to sell, and if the worst came to it, I'll just garage it and use it as a plaything when we come back four times a year.

Just dreading getting the phone calls..'5k, cash, NOW!!' and all that tired, tired old st.

It's a buyer's market. Here's the competition:

02-reg 325ci, 1 owner, leather, xenons, 80k miles, £6300
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1599293.htm

another 02-reg 325ci, leather, nav, 58k miles, £6999
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1615333.htm

I think you'd have to be very lucky to get £7500 for yours.

Some exceptions proving the rule there. I disagree it's a buyers market though.

Hey, we'll see smile

The first one has some dodgy mods and isn't an original example.

The second one is not a Sport.

If the OP's 325Ci is in the condition he describes, I'd consider it worth a grand more than the first one you listed. A nice, honest used 3 Series Coupe is pretty rare and when you find one, its worth snapping up without quibbling about the odd grand.

Not trying to have a pop at the OP's car. I'm sure it's in very good condition as he describes.

Good luck with the sale.

For info I bought in January a late 2001, 330Ci M sport, <80k, 2 owners, FSH, leather etc similar spec to yours, Immaculate condition a credit to the previous owners
one minor scratch on the front right lower bumper, some laquer peel on the wing mirror plates.

Paid substantially less than 6k via a Private sale.....

I know cars have increased in value lately but with the a mileage I wouldnt be looking to pay more than £6.2-6.5k max, for a mid mileage 2002 car.

So I would say list at £6995 and expect to negotiate.

Just my 2p,

D

I think the key to this is patience. Look how long cars stay on dealers' forecourts, or in the classifieds - eventually they sell.

It sounds like a nice car, with good spec, and in the right colour (I'd be interested if I had the money).

Advertise it for what you think it's worth - a proper ad with lots of info and good photos.

Be prepared to wait, and to fend off silly offers. It might take a while, but someone, somewhere, is (or will be) looking for a car like that and will make a sensible offer.

Good luck.

Agreed, but most of the cretins out there see all the rubbish at low prices and that becomes their benchmark.
A good one will sell . . . eventually. IMO getting £7k for a 325 will be good going and will take some time.

Ref the first one above . .
Why do people say xenons when they've fitting some £100 eBay tat which just blinds oncoming drivers ?
No pics of the passenger side body nor drivers seat bolster.
Not worth anywhere near £6,300 surely ? The only good thing imo is one owner.
