OK...so got myself a 36,000 mile 335i SE Coupe. Pleased :-)

I am mad not to put a aftermarket warranty on it...or ok to take the calculated risk

Had a Porsche 997S - that engine went pop and had less miles...was just wondering if the BMW is more relaible than my last car?

Indeed - but I was really refering to the 335i Coupe - does it NEED a warranty or is it generally reliable - esp with twin turbos?

No-one can answer that for you.

What matters is your particular approach to risk - and the question is, do you feel lucky (punk)?

Not heard any real horror stories with the 335i.

I remember Evo magazine running one as a long term car, and it had to have the turbos replaced under warranty at quite low mileage, although I don't think it's a common problem, probably down to them ragging it.

There are a few on this forum running 335is, and the only moans we seem to hear are about the run flat tyres.

It certainly doesn't have the reputation that water cooled Porches have for grenading their engines with no warning.

There are known issues with the turbos and rattling wastegates. Coil packs are also prone to failure. I have an AUC warranty on mine and will definitely be extending it with BMW for added peace of mind.

Great choice btw cool I think these offer superb VFM at the moment.

I knew there were engine problems with early 996's and Boxsters but I thought Porsche had sorted those by the time the 997 came out; clearly not by the sounds of it!

Try warrantydirect. If they cover the 335, then their products and service are exceptional

Have you actually tried BMW? They might come in very competetive especially when you look at whats excluded when you buy a non BM policy?

Did you manage to sell your chocolate bar then? Still running yourself around on the 911uk site?

ya - sold the 997 - nice cars but engines are prone to go bang without warning. Expensive car then!
