I don't know if this is foul to naming and shaming rules, as I don't have a complaint with the company.

My car is currently in warranty repair with a Nationwide company of Autocentres, and I am reading some worrying stuff on the internet about them, mainly about the pricing but a few about the quality of repairs.

My car is in for a headgasket replacement, and although I am not worried about the cost (I am not paying), I am concerned that their quality may not be up to scratch, as I was not allowed to use my normal trusted garage.

Has anyone used them with good experiences? I am struggling to find any.

Also, on a head gasket replacement for 1.4l corsa, is there anything I should be looking for on collection specifically that would indicate any "bodge" work?

You will always get bad reports from such a large nationwide company like these but you dont hear all the good stories, a corsa 1.4 shouldnt be a hard task to a novice mechanic let alone a fully qualified individual, i am sure it will be ok.

It's a pretty simple engine to do a headgasket on, and I'd imagine they've probably done several. Nothing in particular to look out for really, just make sure everything is where it belongs and there's no knackered HG symptoms.

Cheers that is what I thought, in fairness most of the complaints are due to pricing, and if the car was not under warranty I would have probably attempted the head myself with the help of a mate.

They seem knowledgeable and honest enough at this branch, and most of the complaints are oop north...

Only people allowed to work on my car now tbh. My local branch that is who are in kent extremely helpfull guys and very reasonable on price in fact tend to go out of their way to keep costs down for me which kinda explains why they are always so busy.

Update for anyone that may have a similar problem -

Finally got the regional manager to phone me back today.

We have come to an agreement, paying me some of the money back for the repair, and we are having a full compression and sniff test done (with me in attendance to confirm the results) to see if the gasket has actually be done ok at a different branch with the regional manager keeping informed the whole time.

Hopefully will be tested this saturday. I have a feeling it will fail.
