Taimar Switch Question
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Still making slow progress re the strip down of my Taimar (was allowed in the garage today by the domestic management as I finished the downstairs WC today).
So I'm slowly stripping out the interior (or what’s left of it) and wanted to confirm what rocker switches I should have in the center console, and what if any should work, as the Taimar has wipers operated from the stalk etc.
Secondly does anyone know what other car the Lucas switches were used on, as I'm down/missing at least two of them....
Finally does anyone have a wiring diagram, as I will need to make/purchase a compete new loom, as the current one has been hacked about, and has domestic 3 core cable and speaker wire, plus a butchered on style Selmair alarm hacked into the under dash wiring.
Regards
Antony

Hi Antony
There's a downloadable wiring diagram on the M-Fix site http://tvr.m-fix.co.uk/ and there should be one in the handbook if you have one.
Not sure what the switches are from as I haven't got a Taimar, but hopefully someone will be along soon who knows. Eurpopa Spares is a good supply for switches https://www.europaspares.com/

Hi Antony
If your windscreen wipers are operated from the steering column, I would suggest the following main switch panel arrangement
Left to right:
Cigar lighter
Hazard warning light
Rear defrost
Light switch
Instrument dimmer
I recall a suggestion the switches were BMC Maxi but cannot find this reference.
The M-fix diagram is not totally correct but near enough to get you going.
When I wired my 3000M, I constructed my own loom, this enabled me to add fuses / relays and multi-connectors to aid removal of dashboard, bonnet etc. As I wasn't concerned with originality, I used toggle switches being more durable, reliable and easily obtained.

The column switched wipers Taimar switches came from a special Mini (a deluxe version). I rarely see the OE switches in full sets in cars, but a generic version is readily available (the only difference is that they have coloured logos instead of lettering) the loom is more like an 'S' rather than an 'M', BUT it is a generic RHD AND LHD loom so by design has so much extra loom a good electrician could rewire using the spare wiring already in the loom! I would always replace the bonnet loom along with any heat affected wires in the engine bay and can remove 20 meters of old wiring from that generation of loom.
