hey guys, i know i should really put this in the vauxhall section but i think they may be a little biased.
needing an estate car, mainly just for the shopping run and taking the dog away at the weekends, once decided i was looking i settled for going diesel just for the fuel consumption.
my question is, does anyone have experience with 2001 astra 1.7dti 5dr estate? not a bad price, advertised at 800, so could maybe knock a little off, has 140.000 miles, mot till sept, no tax
any opinions welcome guys
cheers
craig.

a 10 year old vauxhall with 140k? unless it has a full history and is in superb condition i would say crush it (imho)
Rubbish. I am driving a 10 year old VW Bora with 144,000 miles on the clock, has a partial service history - it just sailed through it's MOT with no advisories, has given me very little trouble and is a lovelly car to drive.
Buy a car with your eyes, go onto the Vauxhall forums to find out the usual faults and take it from there.

Volkwagen.........good
vauxhall.......not so good
but if (as i said) its got a good history and looks good, why not?
beats some 144k s
tbox
I'm just against crushing perfectly good cars, even if they are a little tatty with high mileage. Bangernomics vauxhall.......not so good

VW's are not all that, i know of plenty of 10 year old vw's with problems - VW reliability is a bit of a myth (although not in my case - touch wood!). I'd only have another VW if it was NA - the turbo variants seem to have lots of problems.
