homepage hijacker - Help!

I have a weird, inconsistent problem. Sometimes when I go to a site it loads normally, sometimes it goes to about:blank, and just sits there. Other times it will go to the site (e.g. BBC), load a part of the page then sit there "Loading" for ever. Pistonheads has been particularly hard hit. If I go there, it loads for a few milliseconds, then goes blank with the "Loading" symbol going round and round, with a message at the bottom left to the effect that it's waiting for CNet.com or some such site. AVG and Spybot haven't helped, and when I tried to load Ad-Aware it downloaded, but every time I try to start it it starts up, starts to run, but then encounters an error and closes.
Basically - HELP!
PS I'm doing this at work, as obviously I can't get to PH at home!

Try malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org
malware bytes is your friend:
download it and then run the mbam-setup.exe, sometimes we have problems with malware preventing this from running, if this is the case rename the exe to whatever you want (eg balls.exe) and run it, this usually allows us to get it installed.
Once installed let it run and update itself.
Then reboot into safe mode (tap F8 key before the windows load screen appears and select Safe mode from the list) and run malware bytes, do a full scan.
The reason you run it in safe mode is to allow the scan to run (hopefully) without the virus/malware running.
