Question for someone who understands the nuts and bolts of bluetooth.

Have a new iphone 3gs and an older pioneer bluetooth hands-free car kit.

Phone seems to connect OK, but does not sync. iphone phonebook.

Pioneer unit needs phonebook to be pushed from the iphone, which I understand is not supported by Apples slightly crippled bluetooth implementation.

The pioneer unit can connect to several (4ish from memory) phones, but each phone is linked to its own phonebook.

I think one known fix is to jailbreak the phone (though I only very vaguely understand the concept at the moment, let alone how to do it!), then run ibluetooth or ibluenova.

Slightly reluctant to do this as a) I don't really understand the implications of jailbreaking b) It's a company phone, see a)!

I was wondering if there was an alternative.

Presumably the pioneer unit uses "something" to recognise which phone belongs to which phonebook, and I guess that would be in the bluetooth "identity" of the device. Now, I can copy the bluetooth device name easily enough. Howabout if I set a laptop with the same bluetooth device name, and somehow spoof the bluetooth mac address from the iphone, and then use that laptop to send the phonebook to the pioneer unit. Is there a chance the pioneer unit would "think" the phonebook had come from the iphone?

Worth investigating, do we think?
