For some reason the hard drive on my computer is split into two parts(Drive C: and Drive Dsmile.Whenever I save anything it goes to drive C: which is now nearly full, however drive D: is empty.
Does anyone know if I can combine drive C: and D: or how can I now save things onto drive D: instead????

Normally drives are split to allow the opperating system a drive for itself and your saved files a seperate drive. This allows you scan/defrag/clean the operating system without the chore of a whole file scan. Booting up will be quicker as will opening programes etc.
Easiest way to save your existing files to the D drive would be to create a short cut on your desktop, open a window to it and then just drag and drop your files into new folders. Once all your files are on the D and C only contains your operating system run a defrag and disc clean on C. Future files, if opened from D will save to D and new files, specify that you want to save to D by browsing the save path.

I had the same issue and as my D drive had masses of space I started to move stuff over with no problems,so far anyway.

move all of your 'my documents' folder to your D drive. Do this by simply dragging and dropping it. This will copy the folder to D drive. Then open 'my computer', right click on 'my documents (left column) , select 'properties' and change the target to be your new D drive location.

Once you are happy its working properly at the new location delete the files from your C Drive. Now anything you do in your documents folder will go to the D drive leaving C for the OS and programs.

word of warning - make sure you have a full backup before doing anything - if you make a mistake you may lose everything so you MUST have a full backup.

Or you could use a disk partioner to get rid of the D drive and have one big drive smile.

Ubuntu live disk comes with gparted and it is simple simon stuff to use.
