Superleggera or an lp-560
Discussion
Hello all,
I sold my last gallardo back in 2008 but now i find i have the itch again. I am actually buying one in the US, but i really cant decide between a 2008 superleggera, or blowing the extra cash on an 2009 lp-560. The difference in price looks to be around $40k USD. Anyone out there who has driven both for an extended period? Is it worth me spending the extra money?
cheers,
melz

I owned both at the same time. The SL felt special but the LP560 was faster, looked better IMO, and was just as good chucking it round my favourite roads. It wasn't until you got them on track that the SL edged ahead, just, in terms of the smile it put on my face (LP slightly soft). If I had to choose, it would be the LP
I have to admit i was so close to getting the LP560 - but couldnt stretch to it - an SL was affordable but I just dont like stripped out race cars for road use ...the great thing with the lambo is that it goes like stink AND has all the refinements...
Settled on a MY08 spider in the end after selling my SE back in Feb - I was out only a very short time !!!

If you want raw thrill I am sure the SL will suit you best, it is that most people would drive as an occasion. I think the LP would be more suited to using more often. I think it is more civilized.
To be honest I don't know if I have added much to this topic though! I shall ask him and see his opinion.
The question you have to ask is, is the extra speed worth that much money??

The comments about 'rawness' and 'softness' on here are largely a question of fine degrees. We're not comparing a Caterham to a Bentley. I think they weigh the same, for example. I found the LP initially disappointing, largely the exhaust note at lower revs, but spend time with it. It is savagely quick, and fantastic soundtrack from mid rpm onwards. Not sure it is any more or less 'liveable with' than the SL really, both have similar limited visibility and awful turning circle. Be sure to check comfort on the bucket seats, the ones in the SL Euro version don't suit taller drivers so well, at least that's my experience, but maybe I'm an odd shape, and you can always drive with a 10 quid cushion to help with lumbar support
