G 50 gearbox thought ?

Hi just a thought running through my head , mines a sbc with a standard g50 gear box ( open diff 5 speed standard ratio etc ) now iv bought the taller 5th gear ( thanks thevet ) and im gonna buy a lsd plate type from elite transmission ( thinking of asking if they do stronger gears while its apart ) and now to my thought ( finally :-)) has any one actually broken a G50 ? i know theres been a fair bit of talk of alternitive boxes over the last few months , but other then mega monster power and constant track / race use, has any one killed a G50 under fast road and say occassional track days usage , hope that made sense , cheers for any thoughts Dal:

Hi Dal, hope the 5th gear upgrade has gone well. The only problem I had with a G50 in nearly 3000miles of track use was the first unbalanced 400ci not being balanced externally....bent shaft. After that, 600hp and 600ft/lbs didn't cause any problems at all, used mobil 1 a la JS which got changed probably every 500miles, but could not fault the box.

I think I have seen pictures of a broken G50 on GT40s.com but it was about a year ago, lots of info and advise on upgrades there too.

Plenty of G50's have broken with a varying range of reasons... but remember plenty of people simply put a 2nd hand box in the car without reconditioning it at all.. meaning they are asking it to take twice the power with 100k wear in it!

the big diff versions are best for over 500bhp... but plenty of people with over 500bhp have used small diff versions which arnt reconditioned and got away with it.

Put simply the G50 seems to be a very tough box.
