Reading an old Motor Sport of December 1972, I had no idea that this Elan estate ever existed. Does anyone know the history and how many were made? The price worked out about the same as A Scimitar GTE at £2,430 which was a tad expensive in the day I seem to remember.

It is.

There were two built, IIRC. Paul Matty Sportscars sold one not long ago; asking price was about £45K, but I don't know what it eventually sold for.

Sometime dureing the 1970s , one of these was for sale in a Showroom on Rayleigh High Street , Essex . As a young boy i was walking past and stopped for a look . Sure it was Metalic Blue, cant remember if it was a Lotus Dealer or a General dealers .

They obviously couldn't afford a designer, it looks like two different cars grafted together!

It surprises me how many estate conversions were botched up like this. Exceptions would be the Reliant Scimitar and the Lynx Eventer.

I believe there to be a plus 2 estate also. That car still exists.

The Plus 2 estate was not by Hexagon; it was commissioned really quite recently, via Paul Matty Sportscars. It was displayed at the Club Lotus show at Donington (last year or the year before? I can't remember...) and was featured in Classic and Sportscar magazine.
