2000 Focus 1.8 td idling high

A friends been given the above car and its been fine except when its warm the idle stays at about 1500rpm sometimes up to 2000rpm its fine when cold staying at about 750rpm, she also says it hesitates sometimes. Any ideas anyone? thanks
