Beware if your driving in Lanzarote, they are very keen on giving out 100 Euro, on the spot fines for driving in flip flops/barefoot/backless shoes. Luckily, I was told before getting caught.

Just got back, but wasn't caught. I wonder why barefoot is considered a bad idea?

Same in Portugal, although I have been stopped a couple of times wearing flip-flops and local police have not made an issue of it. You can also be fined here for driving without a shirt.

Well I see what you mean, I would get a more direct push with hard boots on compared to bare foot, but is it really much better than some of the pathetic shoes with virtually no sole at all that women can drive in?
