Chainline, which size BB, which crankset?

Hi, i am building my own mountain bike and see lots of info on Bottom Brackets etc but i dont know what the chainline is or what size BB to go for etc
Does anyone have advice on where to start, just trying to get my head around it all!
BB needs to be a 68mm one and is a cartridge type, i am just stuck on width and the dreaded chainline.
Oh yeah, it is an Orange Gringo MTB 17" frame hardtail.

Chainline is an imaginary line drwn from the midpoint of the rear cassettte. In therory it should pass midway between the rings of a double chainset and through the middle ring of a triple.
The big variable is the OLD (Over Locknut Dimension). On today's road bikes that is 130mm. MTBs can vary and be 135mm.
On a road bike it is approx 48mm.
Chainsets should be used with brackets that give the correct result.

Your chainline is determined by what chainset you use, personally i'd bypass square taper/isis chainsets (damn old now and heavy and really only seen on sub £300 starter bikes). If you are wanting a triple chainset then start at the Deore HT2(£50) depending on budget and go from there.
