At around 14:40 this afternoon, a black Audi TT was pulled by an unmarked Vauxhall Omega (or model of that size) in dark metallic red. This was on the M40, westbound, just after J2 for Beaconsfield.

Look our for this Vx Omega, it's obviously the local unmarked BiB.

That Omega works out of my garage at Alperton along with our other dark coloured Omega unmarked car. Both are video equipped and use Provida 2000 average speed calculators. They are being used more and more and are now a priority posting on shifts. They are the best way of catching WDC/Dangerous Driving. We are getting more unmarked cars......

What are average speed calculators? How do they work?

Is this the same as mobile specs?

Did the previous VASCAR(?) in car jobs not record speed?

Provida 2000 is just another version of Vascar, average speed using distance and time.
We also take out Lasers to use from laybys when its a bit quiet. Some of the guys at work now tend to target cars from the rear to avoid jammers/detectors...it works without setting off detectors apparently, just something else for you to think about....

What's a Met based car doing pulling in the Thames Valley area? I was under the (mis)apprehension that the M40 was the domain of the TV Constabulary.

Hmmmn. Best fit 'em front and rear...

Go on, willc, bag a few nutters for the PH sanctioned DLAT (Driving Like A Tool) offence...and exercise some discretion for the rest of us, eh?

Especially if its a bright red Porsche....or a stealth green Vectra.

Good. In fact better than good. Excellent. I hope you'll be concentrating on such offences and leaving the rest of us to potter (or not) around in safety?

We often have to move onto the M40 to catch some people, its probably better to get caught by the Met. as at least we are professional!!
Tonight we will have a jounalist and a photog out with us from AutoCar,apparently they want to see how my garage is targeting poor driving on our patch by using unmarked cars.
I will mention Pistonheads and keep an eye out for any of you guys!!

If you do try to say something involving words such as:

Nice bunch.
Driving enthusiasts.
Actually want to drive better/safer/more progressively

which might do something to dispel the old...

"Death Threats" business

Good luck. I'm sure you'll have an interesting evening...

Does this mean that you are seeing a lot of jamming of the lasers these days and that these jammers really work?

I take it you mean by using video evidence to catch the driver then.. 'cos the rest of your posts seem to say laser/provida, which seems to be only used for catching speeding drivers, not WDC/Dangerous driving. :/

Well that was a most interesting evening with the nice men from Autocar. I mentioned PistonHeads and he was aware of the site. I explained that it was a great place for interesting points of view from a wide selection of the motoring public who were all very pro safe driving and he agreed.
We also managed to catch the following numpties:
1/ A40 18year old driving at speed,nearside overtakes/tailgaiting etc.
2/A40 30year old, 70MPH in a 40MPH whilst undertaking/tailgaiting and a most outrageous red light.
3/ M1 NW7 115MPH in 70MPH limit before then driving at 83MPH in a 40MPH speed limit due to roadworks and contraflow (oh and foglights on with no fog)
4/ A406NW10 70mph in a 50MPH limit and 65 in a 40MPH limit tailgaiting and nearside overtaking.
All of the above were captured in glorious technicolour using the Video inside the car, the speeds were calculated using an average speed calculator.(Provida 2000)
The article should be in Autocar next Tuesday.

Will, assuming a car was doing nothing dangerous, not in heavy traffic etc, what speed would you have to be doing to get pulled?

Will, I think we all share a sense of gratitude that you managed to catch so many idiots who were obviously driving in a most inappropriate manner for the conditions. From your descriptions these are exactly the sort of people who need educating or taking off the road. But will they? Do you expect them to be prosecuted or just let off with a warning? I'm wondering just how far the CPS takes this sort of offence compared to those caught on Gatsos?

Can I ask for your boys with your lasers to try something out ?

Can you try & clock a speed reading off one of those blue cameras on a post or the new green camera things. The TrafficMaster type posts. Obviously aimed at the black lens bit. There are some IR immitters in them & I think they blank out your laser unit.

My suspicion is you'll get a nill reading or something? just would like to know.
