Hi all,

Received a mail from HM Revenue & Customs [securemail@hmrc.gov.uk]

Stating that

Tax Refund Notification
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 988.50 GBP. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 2-3 days in order to process it.

I'm assuming this is spam? nothing on google for it and the email looks legit, just moved to the US so wouldn't be surprised if I owed them rather than them owing me!

Yep. You don't have to request refunds. They just arrive.

Thought so, oh well, better put the Sunseeker on hold, thought it was an odd way to do things.

Thanks all!

If it's too good to be true!

Again, thank you all for clarifying that, the minute I saw, enter your bank details, alarm bells rang!

That and HM Revenue wanting to give me money.

Recently had the same, if you report them to HM Revenue as phishing email you will find that the reclaim email sites will eventually show that they have been closed down.

Do not be fooled I had a reply on my last mail and that categorically stated that they DO NOT send out emails regarding refunds or any other communication.

I find it hard to comprehend that people need to ask this question, just stop, stop for a minute and think, have you ever given HMRC your email address? Nope didn't think so nor have I so why would they be emailing you about a rebate?

Oooooooooooops just thought actually yes I have but that has been for online NI/PAYE & VAT payments for work but I most certainly haven't for my personal tax affairs.

OK, so you've just moved to the US and had your tax forms completed on your behalf for you have you? having last week just received a rebate from the US? ermm no. I checked the mail address and it said .gov, thought it was odd that you'd enter your email address and there's no reference on google for it when I searched for the subject line, so double checked here.
