is it worth uprading, opinions needed

hi everyone
i currently have a cannon 450D but i'm wondering if its worth changing to the 500D, (although i never thought i'd say it on an slr) the hd video recorder is really making me want to upgrade. but would i be losing quaility if i bought it? not totally clued up on the technical side, and i love my 450d for quality, ease of use, using all the options on it etc...... so does it have the same/better spec than the 450d except now it has a video feature?

Never worth upgrading until you can say XYZ doesn't do ABC that I want it to.

Upgrading the eye of the operative and the skills that go with it are the first upgrade. Kit is number two to upgrade during the learning process.


(Just my tuppence - of course, anyone with money to burn should definitely ignore this point.....)

is a good point, but i always had moments with my camara wishing i could record something and this seems to fit the bill....and looking around they don't seem to be that much more than what i can sell my currant camara for

I think the 500D's video functions are rather gimped arnt they? Better to buy a 550D which does all the qhizzy resolutions and frame rates.

You know video recording with an SLR is quite , uh, tricky , right?
