Simple Accounts Package
Discussion
Is there an accounts package out there which is idiot-proof? I need one which will allow me to put multiple invoice numbers on one page and just does the basic invoices out, reciepts coming in type stuff. Sage is doing my head in, so it needs to be more basic than that. I think I have had my own system running on excel for too long but Sage involves to much faffing about.
Please help, I'm about to go mad.
Thanks
Hannah

Hi there,
Quickbooks is aimed at small business owners who've perhaps not had to use an accounts package before. They substitute 'accounting' terminology with 'plain english' to help. It's the UK's second most popular accounts package after Sage. I know as I previously worked for the makers of Quickbooks in the UK!
Things have moved on, and Sage now also offer a 'basic' new to business version of their software. It used to be that Sage was aimed at 'accountant' types, and Quickbooks was for those who had neve run a business before. I think nowadays their basic offerings are the same with various differences. Sage is the one to go for if you see the business potentially growing quite large i.e more than perhaps 25 people and more than 5 of those people requiring access to the system as Sage have bigger - and more expensive ! solutions/software to grow with you. Quickbooks has a max of 5 users at any one time, so although you can 'sort of' workaround it, if you need more on a regular basis, that's about as far as you can go, Intuit UK don't offer the Enterprise version (at least not yet!) of Quickbooks which is available in the US.
If you know you'll stay small, or have simpler requirements, then yes, Quickbooks is very highly regarded out there and doesn't cost vast amounts and is more flexible than Sage. There are a number of other providers as well, but over the last few years with quite alot of movement in the small business accouting software providers, means theres been takeovers, withdrawals from the UK market, and other direction changes which means I'm currently not sure of who else there is.
Hope this helps
cheers, Dennis.
