Whilst tinkering under my defender earlier this week, I noticed a large scrape and dent in the bottom of the sump, not quite penetrating the metal!!!
Whilst I have a Rebel steering guard, this doesn't extend far enough back to protect the sump itself.
Is there anything available that will offer more protection?
I know it's pretty well tucked away but the scrape occurred somehow (possibly before my ownership).

Thanks guys.

I think you'll have to have something custom. Do you do much extreme stuff?

Can't remember exactly on a 90, but check to see if your bump stops are still there, as it might have been the diff that hit the sump.

yes i doubt it would be a rock hitting the sump as it would have to get passed steering arms and the axel and then miss the bellhousing and gearbox cross on the way out. Check suspension maybe a bumstop is missing and diff or prop is hitting the sump. Maybe if it was a previous owner they replaced the bump stop so you don't need to worry or it could even be the sump was dropped during servicing

I don't do anything extreme (well not in my opinion anyway smile) I think the diff is offset to one side more than this. Bump stops are still there. Perhaps a wayward stone!!

The base of the engine is pretty tucked up out of the way, so I'm assuming it must have been done by a previous owner before I fitted the steering guard! I suppose you could go over the top trying to protect absolutely everything. Did you mean to say 'bumstop' - ha ha!!
