New Steering Rack?

I heard on the grape vine that someone is offering a new steering rack (apparently it uses the housing on an exchange basis but all the internals are brand new). Does anyone know who is offering this? Thanks.

Not too sure but i do know that my one is weeping a bit and will need replacing soon. Google brought up a place only a couple of miles from my house that can refurbish them so am going to go down this route. Probably a bit more cost effective too.

I would wait before you do anything. Mines been weeping ever since i bought. Top it up every couple of months. Some have had rebuilds done only to find them leak again within a few days. It really does depend on the condition of the rack,and who,s doing the rebuild.

Weeping seals is a pretty straightforward repair - refurbishers replace all the seals systematically so any refurb would rectify leaks. The issue I'm trying to deal with is worn rack and pinion. The backlash adjustment is maxed out and there is still excessive play so a new rack and pinion is required but these are not readily available but I understand "somebody" may have had some made...

New U/J's already fitted!

The play on mine was in the pinion valve torsion bar assembly, not the rack itself. I understand that the ends are pinned and the holes enlarge with wear allowing radial play.

I got hold of a low mileage rack for £100 so haven't had my old one refurbed yet.

Does anyone have an exploded view of the rack?

If so can you post it on here / link to it.

I'd love to see what's in there before deciding if I'll pull it apart myself.
