Web Site Design
Discussion
Hi Jo,
V good for your first website.
Short paragraphs and to the point.
Would be nice to see some further examples of your work be it print /web/ logos e.t.c
Some unique photos on the site, perhaps ?
Most people ignore/dislike flash headers so keep the top logo the same on all pages and just have a small snazzy intro on the front page only.
Ramesh.

Further thoughts .... IMO the big spider logo needs a bit of paintshopping to make it less blocky, and the main logo (your name) could do with some snazzing up too.
Contacts page : you've listed UK numbers, as work like you do is international and location unspecific, might be worth changing that to +44 numbers.

The yellow text + bar within the flash logo is not easy on the eyes with a white background.
If you're just starting I can recommend The Gimp.
(Download from www.gimp.org)
Will open and save Photoshop files (.PSD)
and has most features and some new ones.
Bit of a steep learning curve, but useful until you can budget for Photoshop.
Forgot to add Good Luck !

Thanks everyone - I was a bit nervous about 'throwing my first site to the lions'
But, Qualityscrew told me to
Please keep the advice coming - I'm determined to get my new venture off the ground, so all helpful advice greatly appreciated.
I have several potential customers waiting for me to produce sites for them, so have to learn FAST!

*Ramesh's web design tip No #1*
**Contact Us page**
Do not use your email address within a mailto link
Why ? Well you will start to get loads of SPAM !
Search engines (like google) *crawl* across your website indexing keywords and text.
SPAMMERS use similar tools to *harvest* email addresses. Looking for email addresses
O.K. so what can you do ?
1.) Have a feedback form where you can quickly send a message to jo web design.
tutorial here:
www.thesitewizard.com/archive/feedbackphp.shtml
Option 2.) Use Javascript code to show your email address:
tutorial and example here:
http://simplythebest.net/scripts/javascript_120.html
No 1 is the best solution for you and your clients.
Most corporate websites have feedback/contact forms.
Its also a good idea to include a tel no+email address on *ALL* site pages. (Maybe within your logo)
Makes it easy for a potential client to call whilst viewing a particular page.

As a design issue i think the yellow on the white should be changed, not good on the eyes.
I've tons of screen shot of previous work i've done, have a look at what goes well with what.
You may need to set up a portfolio like this showcasing and maybe telling a little bit about the client/ designer process you went through.
I've done major sites to 5 page personal webspaces.
Remember to know your packages and limits. Sometimes i've taken on too complicated projects but as it's the internet you can always source help. I'm here if you need any.
Hope this helps
