6-7k for a Cooper S???

Ive been shopping around and quite like the idea of a Cooper S. Would my budget buy me a good one or am I scraping the bottom of the barrel? looking on here and autotrader it looks like a good budget but thought I should make sure with some owners.

also what will a set of tyres set me back? and how long to they last on average?

Depends on age, mileage etc.

Budget seems ok too for a Pre-facelift R53.

Tyre wear depends on how you use them and costs depend on if you are running RF's or not.

205/45/17 non-rf's cost me about £80 avg. Front wear quickly as its fwd, rears more slowly. I've had to change my fronts within 10,000 miles but current set have lasted me 40,000 (motorway commute) miles and are due a change soon.

I would say that is a fair budget,

My girlfriends was £8k and that is an 53 plate with 41,000 to give you some indication.
