e39 sport touring for under 4k... possible? what to look for

I'm in the market for a e39 sport touring. 4k budget tops.... what sort of things should I look out for, either a 525/530.

Does anyone know of a decent example for sale anywhere? how will the drive compare to my current 2004 a6 tdi?

The car is so, so, so much better than the A6 for driver enjoyability.

I had a C5 A6 sport avant after an E39 and it felt so wooden in comparison, then had an E61 and that was great, although if I am totally honest with myself I think I actually preferred the E39 to the E61, the E39 was a 530i sport, the E61 was a 535d sport.

I am now in a 3.2 A6 Quattro avant, and as nice as it is I do miss the BMW touring.
I am seriously considering going back, and seriously considering getting another E39, great cars.

I would be very surprised if you got a decent 530 touring for that price, i would be looking at a 528i sport manual for that price if i were you. A 99 / 00 model will be clear of Nikasil issues. Check its history to see what work has been done to the cooling system, ie new rad, water pump, viscous fan etc

I've seen a nice 325 sport touring, auto, black electric leather, 103k on the clock £3800. Looks nicely looked after. However as the 530 is the sameish on fuel I still wouldn't mind one of those!
