A question for Rick really !

When washing my vantage just now I noticed that there is a smallish gap between bodywork and L/H headlight glass at the point closest to the bonnet badge. It is ever so slightly wobbly there although the rest of it is fine and tight and gap-free.

I'm assuming that a nut has dropped off or a clip has loosened but can't find a way to get to it - can you help ?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick, to access the fittings for the headlight the wheel arch liner will require removal, you will have some access to the fixings then, to get in properly the air box that fits under the lamp would need to come out, not a big job

Couldn't get to the corner of the light I needed through the wheelarch access panel, removed the engine cover and grille - but no sign of any kind of fixing in that area - so ever resouceful, stuffed a piece of pipe lagging foam underneath the light unit to push it upwards which has closed the external gap and stopped it rattling !

Guess what you are going to be doing when it comes up for its service later in the year Rick !!!

Dismantling an Aston is actually kind of theraputic, but fiddly - thank heavens my wife has small hands (phnarr phnarr) !

Lol now that's amusing I wonder if Kay will do more in the workshop as she also has smaller hands, Nick the bit with the access panel, the complete wheel arch liner needs to come off to gain access,

the two rear fixing can be seen at the top of the lamp, the one at the front is a little more difficult to get at but not to bad, but if you can wait I will sort it when you next come up

Rick - you are truly outstanding !!!!!!!!!!!

I checked the two rear ones (as shown on your photo)which are fine, so it's definately the top front.

The wedge of foam has taken up the slack so I guess the lamp alignment is pretty much back to what it should be, in truth I think it can wait now until I see you next.

Trouble is my driveway is tiny widthwise, so I have to go to a local farmyard to use their hardstanding for any fettling and endure the tractor drivers seeing pieces of Vantage spread over the tarmac taking the p155 mercilessly !!

Thanks again Rick.

To finish this topic.....

The front plastic mounting bracket has snapped off the headlamp which explains that while the bolt is still in place the front of the lamp assembly has dropped inwards.

To save spending many, many, many hundreds of pounds to replace an otherwise working assembly my man is going to fabricate an aluminimum mounting bracket and permanently attach it to the lamp unit to replace the broken plastic one.

The car has never been crashed or bumped, so we reckoned that sometime over the last couple of months while the vantage was parked up some fat trollop has sat on the light noshing a quarter pounder while her "fella" took a snap on his mobile.

At least it wasn't stilletto scratches across the bonnet I suppose............... !!!!

Ahh the good old days!! I remember destroying the bonnet on my 4 month old XR3i with studs from a girls leather bike jacket that i met at Rock night at Roxys Sheffield. Looked like torvil and deane had used it for practice, lol.
