Diesel exhaust temperatures...

... have a Gooner diesel as a daily workhorse and it's plagued with a rattly heatshield around the exhaust run; full length of the car almost. Very thin reflective ally material that just gets battered by spray and road debris until it clatters and rattles like a bugger. Apart, perhaps, from the area around the cat, any scope for just binning it? How hot is a diesel exhaust likely to be cat back...?

And before anyone says refix it or fix it better, trust me I have tried...

Im sure it wont be the first heat shield to fall off....

and unless there is anything flammable in close proximity, I wouldnt worry.
