When did memory go up in price?

[Dupont666]

Just having a look at the memory costs of a macbook:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mt...

dont remember it being nearly £100 for upgrade to 4GB??

thought it was cheaper, anyone know why?

I guess the current exchange rates have something to do with it.

I paid £100 in Feb, it's now £112. From Offtek.

Memory prices are notoriously variable. Exchange rates, and also supply fluctuations.

I read somewhere a factory burnt down, causing a spike in prices. I wish I had stocked up when it was cheap, was a time when it was possible to buy desktop or laptop 2GB DDR2 800Mhz sticks from play.com for 11.99 delivered, unbelievably cheap.

At the end of March 2009, I bought exactly that kit for my gf's Macbook from Crucial. Dug out the receipt, it was £39.08.
