Alignment, Alignment, Alignment!!!!!
Discussion
I know theres probably already a million threads on this... but heres another!..
I had my '5 suspension geo setup today by Nigel Langs in Bolton (see wiki for contact) - they are reccomended by Tony@WIM and have access to the various WIM settings... i found the details off the back of a GB on Nutz last year
I had mine setup for fast road.. when the car was put on the machine, pretty much every single reading was in the red!..
Now its like a completely different car... its even taken the edge off my silly-hard bilstein shocks.. it goes round corners on rails where as before the back end felt a bit nervous.. my plan for the day was to get alignment done, then wash the car and fix a couple of bits.. instead i left Langs at 12.30 and only got back home half an hour ago.. I LOVE THIS CAR!
Quite simply.. if you have never had your geo done, GET IT DONE!.. if you think your car handles nice now, it will be much much better with proper geo!!.. im sure there will be more '5 owners to back this up... geo is possibly the single biggest-improving "mod" that can be done!

Absolutely agree.
Had mine done at WIM after fitting the new susp and it made a WORLD of difference
Handling is absolutely 100% top notch now. I love the precision, the control, the fun you can have when you provoke the back end on roundabouts and it does exactly as you expect, almost like it's attached to your brain..

hi, i pick up a new 5 coupe in a few weeks and i am getting the lowerd springs fitted, will mazda do a good job of setting up the suspension or is it best to get it checked by an indipendant.
cheers tom
From a dealer?.. i bet they will just slap the coils on and leave it like that.. cheers tom
If you can, get it to wheels in motion. from what ive read they will dial in different settings anyway.. give them a call. they are always very happy to discuss!..

That's no distance at all from me, think I might be making a trip as soon as I can afford some new tyres. If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did the alignment cost?I had my '5 suspension geo setup today by Nigel Langs in Bolton (see wiki for contact) - they are reccomended by Tony@WIM and have access to the various WIM settings... i found the details off the back of a GB on Nutz last year

Some Mazda dealers have the same equipment as WiM, they may do a good job, but Tony takes a pride in his work & has found fault with the way some dealers have fitted Eibachs. Twisted bushes is one of his gripes.
Just got back from WIM also had the fast road settings applied to my car, a couple of extra laps of a quiet roundabout confirmed the handling to be a great improvement even though I already considered it to be very good. A very worthwhile spend to optimise your mx5. Highly recommended.
At WiM this morning, spoke with Tony who is every bit as described on the forums.
Given the state of the adjusters which needed a fair bit of elbow grease to free up, it was clear my car had never had alignment done in its 12 years. I reported bump steer, tramlining and a back end which was skittish and mobile. All was soon revealed by the red numbers on the Hunter machine, most notably showing the rear left toeing-out by a significant angle.
I was pleased that WiM managed to hit the fast-road settings bang on, as apparently with some cars they are limited by the range of adjustment.
I've only had a relatively short drive home to judge, but post WiM the car is not surprisingly more planted and the added front castor is readily felt in a weighter, more substantial steering response. I'm not a drift merchant and like things neat and tidy, hence appreciate the fact that one would really have to provoke things to an extreme, to get out of shape in the dry. At the same time the car has lost nothing of its nimbleness and eagerness to change direction. Other settings are on offer for those who prefer more edgy characteristics.
All in all another satisfied customer and a positive WiM experience. Tony mentioned that he is lining up a numerous range of partners nationwide, which is good news for those who aren't as fortunate to live within easy reach.
