I live in York and with the nice weather fancy going to the beach - I've driven across to bridlington and filey before... filey was nice, but I'd like to see a beach that is just a bit of coastline and not a seafront... are there any of these nearby worth a visit?

5 mins on the coast road out of Whitby is Sandsend which has a great mile + stretch of Beach. A few local pubs and shops and plenty of sandy beach to explore. wink

If you go to Brid, turn off at carnaby & head for the `yacht Club` where there is a new launch facility then you`ve got hardly ant facilities but a huge epanse of lovely beach which could be in France. if you walk far enough south you`ll even find a toilet & an ice cream van - have a look at google earth for Wilsthorpe.

I was there just yesterday. (£2 park ticket required tho')

Stayed the weekend with friends in Brandesburton we then called at quite a few lovely beaches between Brid and Hornsea.
Just a little chilly in the wind but sunny all day. Lots of choice for the beeches so not too many people at any one

Would highly recommend the Chinese restaurant in Brandesburton Village
Both lovely people running it and also fantastic food - the best Chinese I have had for years!!!!
The Chinese guy running it lives 1/2 mile from my home (70 miles away) and does a 150 round trip every day he works!!!!

The Dacre pub next door is a good pub as well (and very good food in there as well)

Cheers
Richard
