Am I just old and boring, or does anyone else agree that this whole 'blend' thing is f
king pointless, unfunny, and a shameful characterisation of how American culture has become so debauched and wasteful that the pointless *destruction* of expensive, useful devices is repeatedly shown as 'entertainment'???
Driving over a brand new iPhone when everyone was desperate to get their hands on one - shock journalism, and the equivalent of burning a £50 note - a hidden meaning that maybe the irrational, hyped desires for material goods showed clearly how you were being manipulated by the marketing machine...
But the 'will it blend' campaign isn't even parody. It's just waste - sheer waste, the very worst and darkest side of a consumption-based economy.
Sure, I'm sounding like some hippy from a commune and everyone knows I've got so many gadgets that I regularly fall over them in my office. But I *f
king USE them* and when I've stopped using them, I try to give them (or sell them) to someone who *will* continue to use them. Information and Communications Technology has made a massive difference to humanity, and in terms of broadening availability to information, I'd say the good sides outweigh the bad sides.
These things are *valuable* on a philosophical level - the whole 'blend' BS effectively says that it's all disposable, keep on wasting our resources. I could advertise a f
king piece of STONE like this - hell, let's see whether this new £2000 Apple laptop survives being smashed repeatedly with a 100 kg stone? Wow - and now you can buy your own stone for £100. f
king idiots.
One day it won't just be the Chinese sifting through old waste computer circuit boards to recover components and metals for recycling. And with a 'disposable consumer' approach to everything, I sincerely hope these people treat *data* with more respect...

Indeed. Pointless destruction for destruction's sake - it's on the same mental level as a pissed up chav smashing up a bus stop.
Cannnot see the connection. These virals must sell tons of blenders - very cost effective advertising.
I still want the gadgets they blend, but I also want a Blendtec blender now!

Think you've missed the point entirely - it's advertising pure and simple. 5 million people have seen what that blender can do for the cost of one iPad. I'm sure he's flogged a few on the back of his youtube vids.I thought it was a bit wasteful but if it's to market the blender, I suppose it's no worse than destroying anything else to make a Top Gear sketch or a blockbuster film or leaving your car running for 30 minutes to listen to the radio while your wife pops into Tesco to do the shopping.
Far better use for an iPad than this destruction video -

Which I didn't find at all interesting/funny.
