Maybe not the right section
to discuss but a discussion about the(unseen for me) pacific got me thinking about band of brothers....

"Grandpa, were you a hero in the war? "No... but I served in a company of heroes"

I bloody love this series does anyone else have any favourite quotes or moments they want to share?!

I'm watching the first episode now, and have just read the Wiki page, only 3m viewers for the first episode, when BoB got 10m!

I think the opposite. For me, you can see the lessons learnt from BoB and their applications. for example, i found BoB to be too impersonal i.e, apart from the major characters of Winters, Garnier etc everyone else just blended into one. i couldn't tell you who was who. In The Pacific, i appreciated the first episode taking the time to introduce each character individually and to form an opinion of them. if there is only one gripe it's that there is too much "saving private ryan" music. generating an atmosphere by using an orchestra shows a lack of depth. but saying that, I can't wait to see the rest of the series to see how it pans out.

That would make him the only non-hero in a load of heroes then?biggrin

A better reply might have been "we won didn't we?"

The truly sad thing is, we continue to lose some of these men. "Shifty" Powers died last year.

Pretty much the whole of episode 9 is memorable to me. One of the most moving 60 minutes of TV I have ever watched.

Lewis Nixon: "What a hell of a way to die."

I remember watching saving private ryan with my granddad before he died, said the beaches scene was the most haunting and realistic thing he had ever watched, he watched about 3 mins and couldnt watch more.

He stormed queen white in the war and spent a few years wandering around northern europe fighting.
