iPhone on T-Mobile
Discussion
careful with jailbreaking, when you update your iphone via itunes chances are it'll no longer be jail broken. i speak from experience. you'll have to keep on jailbreaking your phone which will be a pain and will probably wipe out cost savings as you'll have to keep on jailbraeaking you phone.
also why are you going from a hpc to iphone. i though hpc's were better.......

Cost savings?? it's free to jailbreak. All the tools are free.also why are you going from a hpc to iphone. i though hpc's were better.......
The only thing you have to worry about after jailbreaking/unlocking and running on a non-spec network is that there is some lag behind OS updates and the ability to jailbreak them. If you're careful, and don't update as soon as iTunes tells you to, you'll be fine. If you do rush in and update, you'll probably find your phone locked up to the original carrier again and no immediate way of unlocking.
I know the 3.1.2 update was jailbroken, but the 3.1.3 isn't (yet) for the 3G/3GS. Google for iPhone Dev Team and you'll find out pretty much up to the minute when new releases are jailbroken

Thanks Melv
I've just brought a new PAYG iPhone from O2, and paid my £15 to unlock it.Does anybody want to but my HTC HD2 or maybe swap for an ipphone 16 GB 3GS
Thanks Melv
About 6 days later, I end up with an unlocked offically supported iPhone 3GS.
I use general.t-mobile.uk for my APN settings, and all works very nicely under the Web'n'Walk package that I use.
Very happy chappie.
ETA, tethering works a treat.

Hi
does that mean that O2 are now happy to unlock the iPhone officially for £15? Or was it a 3rd party providing the unlock.
If this is the case it's the first call I'll be making moday morning.
yep, once brought, register the phone and sim via iTunes, make few calls, as you need to provide two commonly used numbers - ensure you then have at least £15 credit on the sim, and go the O2 website and request an unlock.does that mean that O2 are now happy to unlock the iPhone officially for £15? Once done, wait for a week or so and Apple send and unlock message to the phone.
Once recieved slap the contract sim you have in the phone and you'll have to register the phone with iTunes again, as long as you're connected to the sim network (I found this out the hard way as I have crap reception at home), and bingo - one officially supported and unlocked iPhone that you can use with iTunes normally and recieved all the usual updates etc
