...... At the moment with the steering still attached and working?

If so with the engine off can you turn the wheels and tell me if the steering rack is silent or if you can hear it squelching and hissing.

I had a loss of fluid and am not sure if I have air in my system or not or if it always makes this noise and I just not noticed it as I never turn the wheels with the engine off!!

Mine leaks fluid into one of the boots and I need to drain it every now and again.

I remember reading about your boots when I did a quick search. I have had a quick look at mine and didn't notice anything unusual.
I am going to give it all a good clean up under there today so if anything leaks I can see it easier and also have a better look at the boots too!!

Mine is squelching. it seems to leek from one of the boots, but nothing too horrid. I was wondering the same thing though. Is there a bypass valve as the pressure would need to go some where when the pump is not turning?

Hi Mark,

Mine has a leak from somewhere - still to be found.

It squelches when passing approx 10 degrees either side of dead centre. Otherwise, silent.

noises as you have described them are normal, just the fluid being forced through the valves as you turn the wheels.

Mine makes those noises too...lets hope that it is normal...had enough drama this week on my winter work already!
